Students will be reading the novel The Wave in class and at home to discuss the notion of Moral Courage. They will then be reading the Memoir Because of Romeck, by David Farber. Looking at two pieces of literature that deal with similar topics will give students the opportunity to make text to text, text to self connections text to world and inferences about what they read.
Essential Questions:
How does the need to belong and be accepted by others cloud our judgment and keep people from making good choices?
Why do people have a natural inclination to look for a leader?
Is it worth trading equality for freedom?
